Entering the road at a 45-degree angle is the recommended approach for an emergency vehicle that has unexpectedly left the roadway. This method helps to create a smooth transition back onto the road while minimizing the risk of collisions with other vehicles. By using a 45-degree angle, the driver can better gauge traffic conditions and reduce the chance of tires losing grip or causing instability as they re-enter the roadway.

This technique also allows for a more gradual re-entry, giving the vehicle time to adjust to the roadway's conditions, such as grip levels and potential obstacles. It helps in aligning the vehicle properly with oncoming traffic, ensuring a safer return to active driving conditions.

In contrast, other maneuvers such as accelerating immediately or making a U-turn may introduce unnecessary risks. Accelerating without assessing the surroundings can lead to potential collisions with vehicles already on the road. Similarly, U-turns can be impractical and dangerous in situations where quick and safe access to the road is necessary. Hence, using a 45-degree angle is the most effective and safest practice for rejoining traffic.
